How Robots Help Agriculturists

Enterprise Technology Review | Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Croplands are soon to have robots instead of agriculturists.

FREMONT, CA: The technology of robotics is transforming the landscape of agriculture in an unimaginable manner. From plowing the field to sowing the seeds, from rearing the animals to milking the cows, from irrigating the crops to harvesting the fruit, robots can do them all. The sphere of agriculture is modernizing. While agricultural scientists are researching about maximizing the potential of the seeds to increase the crop yield, the industrial engineers are crafting methods to revolutionize the operational spectrum of farming.

Top 10 Agtech Companies in APAC- 2020The new applications of robotics in the field invoke a higher comfort level for the farmers, increased output, and greater revenue. Cobots have emerged to carry out the milking activities. This reduces the burden for the labor as milking large cattle could be not only tedious but consumes a lot of time as well. In addition, robotics technology helps farmers in achieving nursery automation. The robots carry out the process of carefully transferring the tiny saplings in the nursery to the main cropland.

Realizing that the traditional method of scattered seeding is less efficient as a lot of seeds get wasted by this method, farmers are now considering modern and more efficient methods. Seeding driven by robotics is referred to as autonomous precision seeding and has become the most preferred way to sow the seeds. This technique calls for geomapping modules that are used along with robotics. The map here is a blueprint that talks about the analysis of the various properties of the field. They include density, quality, the texture of the soil, area of the field, fertility value, and more. Robotic seeding further points out locations in which the seed has to be sown. With this, the seeds can be precisely sown to ensure a guaranteed harvest.

Autonomous tractors, intelligent weeding and spraying mechanisms, smart irrigators, monitoring of the crop field remotely, and more are some of the highly interesting, innovative, and exciting ways to use robotics in the field of agriculture.
