Where does Nanotechnology coincide with sports equipment?

Enterprise Technology Review | Thursday, July 11, 2019

Nanotechnology in constructing athletic equipments have modified and reshaped the face of sports entirely.

FREMONT, CA: Sports and technology were not often spoken about together, until the emergence of nanotechnology in day-to-day athletic activities.. Innovations in the competitive world of sport are bound to enter a technological reshuffling with the involvement of nanotechnology. Additionally, the emergence of sophisticated devices will empower sports managers to unlock the full potential of athletes, hence creating an extension towards perfection.

The world of sports is not new to the integration of nanotechnology, as the desire to improve the functionality of equipment in order to bring out the full potential of athletes has always been the core principle of the sports industry. From global tournaments to local cups, the extent of nanotechnology has spread like wildfire.

Impact of Nanotechnology

Assimilation of nanotechnology in the sports industry has benefitted the developers into constructing lightweight equipment having high efficiency. Bending the niche of sports equipment, nanotechnology offers athletes to play with sophisticated, high-end, comfortable, and safer equipment. Tampering the heaviness of traditional hardware with nanotechnology, the present day athletes have gained higher mobility, hence, improving the flow of the game. From baseball bats to fishing rods, nanotechnology has improved the performance, accuracy, and durability.

In tennis, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) incorporated with graphite produces a perfect replacement for the traditional wood crafted rackets which not only strengthens the frame but also reduces the risk of micro-errors. Furthermore, tennis balls coated with nanoparticles can now decline ball replacements, which occur due to limited air contraption in the core.

Carbon nanotubes in bicycle manufacturing enable the professional cyclist to reach higher speeds without compromising the strength of the product. The race to attain sophisticated equipment has always been the motto of athletic clubs, and with the integration of nanotechnology, the probability of pushing human limits becomes increasingly achievable.

Nanotechnology has proved to be a constructive technology showing potential in every sector that it comes in contact with and sports remains no exception to this. As many prominent athletes are opting for next-generation products, there remains no doubt that the demand for nanotechnology will skyrocket in the near future.
